Portrait François Ciocchio

Francois Chiocchio, Ph.D

After 10 years as professor of psychology of work and organizations at the Université de Montréal, I joined, as an Associate Professor, the Human Resources and Organizational Behavior group of the Telfer School of Management of the University of Ottawa. My research involves human aspects of teamwork, especially in the context of interdisciplinary collaboration, where team members must transfer their knowledge to each other. That is in fact the approach I use in my work with the members of the RENARD team. I combine theoretical approaches from the field of the psychology of work and organizations – specifically theories of the efficacy of teams – with concepts from the field of motivation and knowledge transfer, in order to make a consistent approach whose propositions can be tested.

At the doctorate level, I teach the courses on Performance Evaluation in the Workplace, Personnel Selection and Advanced Psychometrics.  I have received funding as principal investigator or collaboratorfrom the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC), and the research program of the Project Management Institute of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

My work, using both qualitative and quantitative methods, has been published in major peer-reviewed scientific journals, including the Journal of Vocational Behavior, Project Management Journal, Small Group Research and International Journal of Project Management.

I have just published, in collaboration with the colleagues from the healthcare community, Stress and Performance of Health Care Project Teams. In addition, I am preparing a collective work to be published by the Oxford University Press entitled The Psychology and Management of Project Teams. Finally, I am also working on a volume in the SIOP Professional Series which will be published by Jossey-Bass under the title The Art and Science of Managing Human Resource Projects.

I am a Project Management Professional (PMP) certified by the Project Management Institute and a certified human resources counselor (CHRA) of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés.

Finally, I am deeply involved with the Canadian Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (Organizational Behaviour Division).
